FG Equips 54,377 Civil Servants with Job-Relevant Digital Skills

The Federal Government is advancing its digital transformation agenda by training thousands of civil servants in essential digital competencies through the Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) Workforce Programme.

The initiative, implemented by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), has recorded strong participation, with 54,377 civil servants enrolling across its foundational courses.

This figure represents nearly 79% of the federal civil service workforce, with enrolments per course ranging from around 45,800 to 54,377, covering an estimated 65–75% of federal employees.

The programme focuses on building foundational digital skills relevant to modern public service delivery, including four core modules: Digital Awareness, Using Computers and Mobile Devices, Digital Content Creation, Communication and Collaboration, and Digital Safety and Security.

It aligns with the administration's goal of achieving 70% digital literacy nationwide by 2027, as a stepping stone to 95% by 2030.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa has emphasized that the effort equips civil servants with the tools needed for efficient governance in a digital era, creating a pathway for progression to intermediate, role-specific, and advanced skills such as cybersecurity, data fundamentals, and emerging technologies starting in 2026.

To encourage completion within set timelines, 35 high-performing civil servants from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) received laptops as incentives during a recent awards ceremony.

The Head of the Civil Service highlighted the programme's role in embedding digital competence as a key pillar of public sector reform.

Interested civil servants can participate by contacting their MDA's Digital Literacy Champions, who provide access links via official emails.

The programme's success marks a key milestone in Nigeria's push for a digitally competent public workforce, with plans to institutionalize Digital Literacy Champions across MDAs and enhance monitoring via a national DL4ALL dashboard.
