FCT Poll: ADC Candidate Alleges Intimidation, Blames Movement Restriction for Low Turnout

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Moses Paul, has accused security agents and others of intimidating his party’s polling agents while blaming the FCT’s movement restriction order for the unusually low voter turnout observed in parts of the council during Saturday’s Area Council elections.

Speaking at his polling unit on February 21, 2026, Dr. Paul described turnout as “significantly lower than expected,” attributing the drop largely to confusion and restrictions caused by the FCT administration’s directive, which banned movement from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.

A long-time resident of AMAC for about 40 years, he said he had never witnessed such conditions, calling the situation akin to “a state of emergency” and deeming it unwarranted.

While praising electoral officials at his own unit for professionalism and compliance with procedures, Dr. Paul reported credible allegations of threats and intimidation against ADC agents in Takum Shara and sections of Kabusa Ward, including Dogongada and Shereti.

He also condemned vote-buying, describing it as a criminal act and alleging it was taking place in various parts of the Federal Capital Territory.“Despite the challenges, I remain confident of emerging victorious.

The will of the people will prevail. Nigerians should resist intimidation and demand accountable leadership,” the candidate declared.

The claims surfaced amid reports of heavy security deployment, partial compliance with the restriction, and general concerns over voter apathy in the polls organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to elect chairmen and councillors across the six FCT area councils.

No immediate comment was available from security agencies or INEC on the specific allegations.
