The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa on allegations of abusing the naira.
The anti-graft agency officially disclosed the arrest in a
statement shared on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.
The announcement was accompanied by a photograph of the
actress holding a placard detailing the offence for which she was apprehended.
In the statement, Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s spokesperson, said
operatives of the commission’s Kano zonal directorate arrested the actress
after a video circulated on social media showing her allegedly using naira
notes to wipe her nose.
“The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 arrested a Kannywood
Star, Samha Inuwa, over alleged Naira mutilation,” the commission wrote.
“Inuwa was arrested following a viral video circulated on
social media platforms where she was seen conspicuously cleaning mucus from her
nose using Naira notes.
“Following the release of the viral video, the Commission
swung into action by tracing and subsequently arrested her to answer
questions.”
Inuwa is currently detained at the EFCC’s facility as
investigations proceed. The agency confirmed that she will be formally charged
in court upon the conclusion of its inquiry.
In 2024, the EFCC intensified its crackdown on naira abuse,
citing section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007, which
prohibits the spraying, stamping, mutilation, or abuse of the naira.
Also, Section 21(3) of the Act prescribes penalties,
including fines and imprisonment, for offenders.
Several notable Nigerians have been arrested, interrogated,
arraigned, and remanded in prison for alleged naira abuse.
