The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has commissioned newly renovated and remodelled accommodation blocks for corporals and lower ranks at Giginya Cantonment in Sokoto State.
The initiative underscores the Federal Government's dedication to enhancing the welfare of armed forces personnel while maintaining a strong stance against criminal activities nationwide.
During the commissioning ceremony, General Musa emphasized the government's unwavering resolve to eradicate criminality and bolster internal security.
He highlighted that sustained efforts, combined with national unity, remain essential to achieving lasting peace and stability.
The refurbished quarters, designed specifically for corporals and below including provisions for their families now include modern amenities such as improved ventilation, enhanced security features, and better overall living conditions.
This project forms part of broader ongoing initiatives to address accommodation challenges and boost morale among troops, particularly those deployed in operational areas across the North-West region.
The event featured the official unveiling of the facility, an inspection tour led by the minister and senior military officers, the symbolic handover of keys to beneficiaries, and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
General Musa stressed that troops' welfare is non-negotiable, noting that well-supported personnel are better equipped to serve effectively both on and off the battlefield.
The move is expected to contribute positively to the morale and operational readiness of the Nigerian Armed Forces in their fight against insecurity.
