Dabiri-Erewa Demands Justice for Nigerian Student Stabbed to Death in UK

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Nigerian student Khaleed Oladipo in Leicester, United Kingdom, and has urged British authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

In a statement released through NiDCOM's Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described the incident as "heartbreaking" and a profound loss to Oladipo's family, the Nigerian community in the UK, and Nigerians worldwide.

Khaleed Oladipo, a second-year cybersecurity student at De Montfort University (DMU), died in hospital on Tuesday evening after being stabbed in the chest on Oxford Street in Leicester city centre.

Reports indicate he was attacked while on his way home, possibly after watching or planning to watch a football match, he was described as a passionate Arsenal supporter and lifelong football enthusiast.

Leicestershire Police have since charged an 18-year-old man, Harper Dennis, with murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

Dabiri-Erewa reiterated NiDCOM's unwavering commitment to the safety, welfare, and protection of Nigerians living in the diaspora. She emphasized that the commission will continue advocating for the rights and well-being of its citizens abroad amid such tragic events.

The incident has sparked widespread tributes for Oladipo, who was remembered by his family as an "extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend, and friend," and by his university community as a valued member whose loss is deeply felt.
