Britney Spears, the American songstress, has sold her stake in her music catalogue to publishing company Primary Wave in a deal described as “landmark”.
The transaction, which was first reported by TMZ, is said to have been finalised on December
30, 2025.
While the exact sum remains undisclosed, a source told the
outlet it was on par with Justin Bieber’s reported $200 million deal
to sell his back catalogue to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2023.
The catalogue includes some of her biggest hits: ‘(You Drive
Me) Crazy,’ ‘…Baby One More Time,’ ‘Break The Ice,’ ‘Circus,’ ‘Don’t Let Me Be
the Last to Know,’ and ‘Everytime.’
Others are ‘Gimme More,’ ‘Hold It Against Me,’ ‘I Wanna Go,’
‘If U Seek Amy,’ ‘I’m a Slave 4 U,’ ‘I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,’ and
‘Lucky’.
Also included are ‘My Prerogative,’ ‘Oops!… I Did It Again,’
‘Overprotected,’ ‘Piece of Me,’ ‘Sometimes,’ ‘Stronger,’ ‘Till The World Ends,’
‘Toxic’ and ‘Womanizer’.
Referred to as the ‘Princess of Pop’, she is regarded as one of the most culturally significant figures of the 21st century and is credited with helping revive the teen pop genre.
With the move, Spears, 44, joins a growing list of artists
who have sold their music rights, including Bieber, Bob Dylan, Bruce
Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, and Shakira.
Primary Wave is no stranger to such acquisitions. The music
publishing company has also acquired the rights to the estates of Notorious
B.I.G., Prince, and Whitney Houston.
