Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents intercepted and set ablaze three trucks loaded with fish in the Mile-Forty area of Magumeri Local Government Area, Borno State, on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 1:00 pm, with the vehicles, two Peugeot J5 trucks and one converted school bus en route to Maiduguri from northern supply points.
Truck drivers reported that the attackers ambushed the convoy, forcing everyone to flee on foot.A security source confirmed to Daily Trust that all drivers escaped unharmed, but the vehicles were completely destroyed by fire, leading to major losses in fish cargo and transport equipment.
The Mile-Forty stretch on the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway is a notorious hotspot for insurgent ambushes targeting civilian supply lines, particularly those carrying essential goods like fish from Lake Chad regions to urban markets.
No group has claimed responsibility yet, and there has been no immediate official statement from the military or Borno State authorities.
Such attacks aim to disrupt trade, create economic hardship, and maintain pressure on communities amid ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the northeast.
