Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has sworn in Mrs. Franca Yuwa as a Judge of the Benue State High Court, reaffirming his administration's commitment to judicial independence, integrity, and accountability.
The ceremony was held at the Government House in Makurdi. Governor Alia described the appointment as one based purely on merit and professional excellence, not favoritism.
He praised Justice Yuwa’s career journey from Magistrate Grade II, to Chief Magistrate, and later Registrar of the High Court calling it proof that dedication and hard work are rewarded.
The Governor highlighted that his administration has appointed more High Court judges in recent times than previous governments, aiming to reduce case backlogs, improve access to justice, and restore public confidence in the courts.
Alia promised continued support for the judiciary through better infrastructure, improved welfare, and full respect for judicial autonomy.
However, he stressed that judicial independence must never mean impunity.Addressing the new judge directly, the Governor urged Justice Yuwa to uphold the highest ethical standards, resist any pressure or inducement, and ensure decisions are guided solely by truth, equity, and the law.
“Citizens expect courts to be fair, firm, accessible, and incorruptible,” he said. The appointment forms part of wider efforts to strengthen the Benue judiciary and deliver timely, impartial justice to all residents.
