Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has assured that he will mobilise Igbo residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to deliver massive support for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the upcoming Area Council elections.
Kalu, who also serves as Secretary of the APC National Campaign Council for the FCT poll, gave the pledge while speaking to journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday.
The Abia-born lawmaker emphasised that the APC would campaign on the twin pillars of visible performance and inclusive governance to win over Ndigbo and other residents across the territory.
Highlighting his personal role in national leadership, Kalu said: “I am an Igbo man and also a Nigerian, and I’m part of this government.
"I’m one of the faces of Igbos in leadership. So no longer can Igbos say we are not part of the administration.”
He pointed out that the Tinubu administration has placed Igbo sons and daughters in prominent positions at the highest levels, unlike the previous eight years when no Igbo held top succession leadership roles signalling genuine inclusion and debunking claims of marginalisation.
Kalu praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for delivering tangible infrastructural projects and grassroots impact across the territory, describing these achievements as the APC’s strongest campaign asset.
“These are our campaign tools. We are going beyond posters and slogans. The facts speak for themselves. You can feel and experience the dividends of democracy,” he stated.
The Deputy Speaker acknowledged that the party had previously faced challenges due to limited grassroots visibility but insisted the narrative has changed under the current administration.
“No reasonable person can say there is no visible development in the FCT today,” he added.
Kalu outlined an aggressive mobilisation strategy that includes door-to-door campaigns, business-to-business engagement, and direct outreach to households in all six area councils and 68 wards.
“We will be on the streets, in every household, business to business, selling the message of the APC,” he declared.
Expressing strong optimism, the Deputy Speaker vowed that the APC would end its history of electoral losses in Abuja and “rewrite history” with a decisive victory, driven by collaboration with pro-APC support groups and a renewed focus on grassroots leadership.
The forthcoming FCT Area Council elections are seen as a key test of the ruling party’s popularity and mobilisation strength in the nation’s capital.
