Hon. Usman Garba Zingo, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Kajuru Constituency, has been released by armed bandits after several days in captivity.
The lawmaker regained his freedom on Sunday evening, February 15, 2026, bringing immense relief to his family, supporters, constituents, and the wider community.
Zingo was reportedly abducted on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, while traveling from Zamfara State back to Kaduna.
Gunmen intercepted his vehicle along a highway near the Kaduna metropolis, forcibly removed him, and fled with him in their vehicle, leaving his driver behind.
The incident highlighted the persistent insecurity plaguing North-West highways, particularly routes linking Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto states.
His release comes amid ongoing concerns over banditry and kidnappings in the region, where such attacks have become frequent despite security operations.
Details surrounding the release, including whether any ransom was paid or negotiations took place, have not been publicly disclosed.
No official statements from security agencies, the Kaduna State Government, or the lawmaker himself were immediately available regarding the circumstances of his freedom.
The abduction had initially sparked confusion, with some earlier reports denied by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, though subsequent confirmations established the incident as genuine.
Zingo's safe return is seen as a positive development in a state that continues to grapple with bandit-related violence and abductions.
Community members and political associates have expressed gratitude for his release and called for intensified efforts to secure highways and curb criminal activities in the North-West.
