Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that he hosted Hajiya Aisha Buhari, the widow of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, along with her daughter Hanan and other family members, during a visit in Saudi Arabia.
In a post on his official X account (formerly Twitter), Atiku described the encounter as an honor, noting that both his family and the Buhari family are currently in the Kingdom performing the lesser hajj, also known as Umrah, a voluntary Islamic pilgrimage that can be undertaken at any time of the year for spiritual reflection and prayers.
"I was honoured to host Hajiya Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, her daughter Hanan, and other family members during their visit to me in Saudi Arabia. Like me, the former First Lady and her family are in the Kingdom on a lesser hajj." Atiku wrote.
The meeting comes months after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2025, and it marks one of Hajiya Aisha Buhari's notable international travels since then.
Atiku shared a photo accompanying the announcement, capturing the moment between the two prominent Nigerian families.
The Umrah pilgrimage holds special significance for many Muslims, particularly during times of personal loss or reflection, as it offers an opportunity for supplication and closeness to God away from the obligatory Hajj season.
