Appeal Court Reserves Judgment in PDP Convention Appeal

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has reserved judgment in nine consolidated appeals filed by rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging Federal High Court orders that sought to stop the party's national convention held on November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The decision was delivered on Thursday, February 12, 2026, after parties adopted their briefs and made final oral arguments before a three-member panel.

Despite earlier restraining orders from courts in Abuja, the convention proceeded at Adamasingba Stadium, resulting in the election of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as National Chairman, together with a full complement of National Working Committee (NWC) members and other national officers.

The appeals, linked to factions associated with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, contest the legality and validity of the Ibadan convention and its outcomes.

The PDP, its current NWC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and various aggrieved stakeholders are parties to the consolidated appeals.

A separate ruling from a Federal High Court in Ibadan had earlier nullified the convention and recognised an alternative caretaker leadership structure, adding to the complexity of the leadership crisis.

The Court of Appeal indicated that the date for delivering its judgment would be communicated to all parties in due course.

The forthcoming decision is widely expected to significantly influence the PDP's internal reconciliation process, leadership structure, and preparations for future elections.
