APC National Chair Visits Fire-Ravaged Singer Market in Kano, Sympathises with Traders

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Sunday led a delegation to the Singer Market in Kano State to commiserate with traders devastated by a massive fire outbreak that began late Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Accompanied by former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Prof. Yilwatda assessed the widespread destruction at the popular commercial hub, where the inferno razed numerous shops and goods estimated to be worth over ₦5 billion (with some reports citing figures as high as ₦8 billion).

The blaze affected more than 1,000 businesses and left seven people missing, according to market officials and emergency responders.

The APC chairman expressed profound condolences to the affected traders, market leadership, and the broader community, describing the incident as a tragic loss that has severely impacted livelihoods.

He spent time engaging directly with victims at the scene, listening to their accounts, and conveying the party's sympathy and solidarity during this difficult period.

The fire, which erupted Saturday evening and raged into Sunday morning, was eventually contained through coordinated efforts by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), federal and state fire services, the Nigerian Air Force, and private firefighting units.

Traders have called for immediate government intervention and support to aid recovery from the enormous financial setbacks.

President Bola Tinubu has already sympathized with the victims, ordered a full investigation into the cause of the fire, and pledged federal assistance.

The visit by the APC national leadership underscores the party's engagement with affected communities amid ongoing recovery efforts in one of Kano's key trading centers.

Authorities continue to investigate the fire's origin, with no official cause confirmed yet.
