Former Vice President and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has expressed concerns that the goals behind the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 have not been achieved, and that the nation’s challenges have worsened since then.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Atiku said the APC was established to address perceived weaknesses in Nigeria’s democracy, particularly issues related to insecurity, the economy, and governance.
“We did this exercise in 2014, not so? We came together and formed APC because we felt democracy was faltering, only for us to end up at the same position we found ourselves in 2014, worse,” he said.
He added that the problems that existed at the time of APC’s founding have intensified.
“In 2014, the major challenges were insecurity, the economy and so on. Now it is even worse than what we fought against,” Atiku said, stressing the need for renewed efforts to strengthen democratic institutions.
“We must have that in mind. We must succeed to make sure that we restore true democracy to our country,” he added.
