APC Chairman Yilwatda Urges Stronger U.S.–Nigeria Ties at New York Summit

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on party members in the Diaspora to embrace unity as a vital strategy for strengthening the party and projecting Nigeria positively on the global stage.

Delivering a keynote address via Zoom at an economic summit in New York, organized by Professor Tai Balofin, his Special Adviser on Diaspora Coordination and Mobilisation Professor Yilwatda stressed that unity is the APC’s greatest asset for advancing national development and sustaining political cohesion among members abroad.

He urged Diaspora members in the United States and other countries to work collectively and make full use of the Office of the Special Adviser on Diaspora Matters as a platform to address party concerns and contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.

The chairman commended the APC USA chapter for resolving past internal differences and now operating as a united front, describing it as a positive step toward greater credibility and deeper international engagement.

Professor Yilwatda reaffirmed Professor Tai Balofin’s appointment and mandate for global Diaspora outreach, emphasizing that the official APC Diaspora structure remains constitutionally recognized and has never been dissolved.

He appealed to any previously independent groups to realign with this structure for the sake of unity, stability, and progress.

The summit included distinguished participants such as Nigeria’s Consul General in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda; Acting Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, Ambassador Syndoph Endoni; Founder of Women Leaders Support Advancement, Deborah Jan Hornecker; and Mayor of Linden, New Jersey, Derek Armstead.

Mayor Armstead highlighted the mutual benefits of stronger investment and economic collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, particularly for communities like Linden that have significant Nigerian Diaspora populations.

Professor Tai Balofin described the event as a key platform for uniting the APC worldwide, mobilizing the Diaspora, and attracting sustainable investments.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to progressive values, Diaspora empowerment, and enhanced Nigeria–U.S. partnerships, while noting progress on the ongoing digital membership registration for Nigerians abroad.
