Afeez Olatunji Adewale, a 26-year-old Nigerian, has been extradited to the United States over a s*xual extortion case that led to the death of a teenager in the country.
In a statement published by the US government on Wednesday,
Adewale was extradited to the US on Friday, February 13, 2026, after he was
arrested in 2023 in Nigeria over the s*xtortion case.
The US government said the support of Nigeria’s attorney
general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, the federal ministry
of justice’s international criminal justice cooperation department, and the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was essential to Adewale’s
extradition.
“Adewale was arrested in Nigeria on August 17, 2023, as part
of a wider operation with the FBI to apprehend s*xual extortionists targeting
minors in the United States,” the statement reads.
“He was extradited to the United States on Friday, February
13, 2026, with the assistance of the Justice Department’s Office of
International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and the FBI, who took
him into custody.”
The s*xtortion case involved Jack Sullivan, a student who
committed suicide after being targeted in an online s*xual extortion scheme.
Two Nigerians — Samuel Aina and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun —
have been previously extradited to the US over the case.
On July 31, 2024, Aina and Abiodun were taken into custody
by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after a Nigerian court ordered
their extradition.
In August 2024, the duo was charged in court over wire fraud
and s*xual extortion.
In December 2024, Abiodun pleaded guilty to money laundering
conspiracy and wire fraud. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
Aina later pleaded guilty to cyberstalking, interstate
threat to injure reputation, receiving proceeds of extortion, money laundering
conspiracy, and wire fraud and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Adewale is the third Nigerian to be extradited to the US
over the case.
He is facing charges bordering on s*xual extortion and
death of the victim in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He appeared before
the court on Tuesday.
