Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, has approved a reduction in working hours for public servants in the state for the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo by Olawale
Rasheed, spokesperson to the governor, Adeleke said workers will close by 2pm
from Monday to Thursday.
He added that work will end by 1pm on Fridays during the
fasting period.
According to the statement, the new schedule takes effect
from February 19.
A circular dated February 19, titled “Closure of Work During
Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods”, issued by Ayanleye Aina, the head of
service, reaffirmed the directive.
“As part of the welfare packages of the state government for
its workforce, the executive governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved
that public servants should close work by 2.00pm from Mondays to Thursdays,”
the circular reads.
“While work will close by 1.00pm on Fridays, during the
ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only.
“This gesture of the governor is to enable public servants
to have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquillity in the
state to continue unhindered, more so that the gubernatorial election will be
held in the state this year.”
The circular, however, noted that workers on essential
services, especially medical personnel, are excluded from the directive because
of the life-saving nature of their duties.
