Abba Yusuf’s defection to APC has set Kano on path of progress, says Uzodimma

Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state and chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, says the defection of Abba Yusuf, Kano state governor, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has placed the state on the path of progress.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima formally welcomed Yusuf to the APC at a grand rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Monday.

The governor had told thousands of supporters present at the rally that Kano can no longer be sidelined from the centre.

He said his decision to join the APC is essential to positioning the state at the heart of national decision-making and securing a better future for citizens.

In a statement on Tuesday, Uzodimma said Yusuf made “a great choice” by joining the APC, noting that the party has assured the people of Kano that their state is now firmly on the path of progress.

“With their continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), even greater prosperity is assured,” Uzodimma stated.

He noted that as a party, APC’s progressive drive for Nigeria’s transformation “has continued to receive widespread admiration, as every subnational government is desirous of associating with progress and delivering prosperity across their respective states”.

The APC governors forum chairman said he is deeply encouraged by the growing alignment of leaders and stakeholders, who recognise that sustainable development is best achieved through unity of purpose and commitment to people-centred governance.

He said President Tinubu has continued to diversify the economy, and Kano state, long renowned for its massive commercial activities, stands to benefit immensely.

“By supporting Mr. President and the APC, Kano is actively promoting economic growth within the state and contributing meaningfully to national development,” Uzodimma added.

“We must, therefore, continue to drive and strengthen this collective support for sustained progress.”
