Prominent Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has declared that President Bola Tinubu is already on course to secure re-election in the 2027 presidential polls, citing a lack of credible and organized opposition.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) shared on Sunday, Adeyanju who emphasized that he is neither a member nor a supporter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) asserted that current political dynamics heavily favor Tinubu's return to power.
“TINUBU has won 2027,” Adeyanju wrote. “If you like say I am working for APC, the truth will become obvious next year. Unserious people just interested in social media noise and not real opposition work.”
His prediction follows closely on the heels of the recent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council election results, which he appeared to reference as a sign of broader trends.
Adeyanju criticized segments of the opposition for focusing on online criticism and viral rhetoric rather than building genuine grassroots political structures capable of challenging the incumbent.
Despite his longstanding criticism of the APC and Tinubu's administration in the past, Adeyanju's latest statement highlights what he sees as structural weaknesses in the opposition camp, including fragmentation and a preference for "social media noise" over substantive political organizing.
The 2027 general elections are scheduled for February 20 (presidential and National Assembly) and March 6 (governorship and state assemblies), according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable though the dates have drawn some criticism for overlapping with the Ramadan period.
Adeyanju's forecast has sparked discussions online, with some viewing it as a pragmatic assessment of Nigeria's current political landscape, while others question his motives given his history as an opposition figure.
This is not the first time Adeyanju has weighed in on Tinubu's electoral prospects; he has previously outlined factors like defections to the APC, opposition disunity, and strategic northern alliances as advantages for the president in earlier analyses.
