A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has declared that no political coalition in Nigeria can surpass the PDP's strength as the party positions itself to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the inauguration of new party managers in Lagos on Friday, February 27, 2026, George described the PDP's November 2025 national convention in Ibadan as a pivotal moment that marked a "rebirth" for the party.
He stated: “I want to confidently tell you that what we have in our party today, since our Ibadan national convention in November 2025, is a rebirth, a new hope, a new beginning, a restoration of the confidence Nigerians had in PDP when it was founded by our fathers in 1998.”
George emphasized the PDP's nationwide appeal, saying it remains a formidable platform from the North to South, East to West. “It is only in PDP that the interest of Nigerians can be better served. There is no coalition in today’s Nigeria that can be stronger than PDP. Ours is a reborn political party that has weathered every storm and can never go under.”
He urged defectors to return to the PDP, referring to it as the "Iroko political party," and criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a fragile alliance of "strange bedfellows" lacking genuine internal democracy.
George pointed to imposed leadership in the APC and alleged undemocratic practices, contrasting them with the PDP's transparent congresses and convention.
The PDP stalwart accused the APC of using the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to undermine the opposition and highlighted widespread dissatisfaction with the APC's governance since 2015, describing it as a party without "fear of God."
George expressed optimism under the leadership of the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee, vowing a commitment to justice, fairness, and equity.
He dismissed recent challenges as temporary and referenced past statements by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to underscore internal party resilience.
Warning against potential electoral irregularities, he described some recent bye-elections as "shambolic" and chaotic, predicting that Nigerians would reject any repeat attempts in 2027.
In closing, George assured: “I want to assure Nigerians that come 2027, PDP will take Nigeria to its rightful place in the comity of nations.”
The comments come amid ongoing political realignments, including recent defections and internal PDP dynamics, as parties gear up for the 2027 polls.
