Wike drags FCTA workers to court

The Federal Capital, FCT, minister, Nyesom Wike, has filed an order challenging the ongoing strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The lawsuit was filed before the National Industrial Court.

The Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) had commenced an indefinite industrial action following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum, leading to the shutdown of major government offices, including the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat.

In response, court filings indicate that Nyesom Wike and the FCTA have approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja, seeking an order to restrain the unions from picketing, blocking offices, or disrupting official activities.

According to court documents, it bears suit number NICN/ABJ/17/2026 and is slated for hearing on Monday.

Justice E. D. Subilim has granted approval for substituted service of court processes on the union leadership, authorising service through newspaper publication, as well as the posting of notices at the JUAC office within the FCTA Secretariat.

Notwithstanding the legal action, JUAC has maintained its stance, vowing to continue the strike.

The union insists that workers’ demands have yet to be addressed.

It urged members to remain at home until further notice.
