The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has verified the Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, putting to rest renewed questions about his academic qualifications.
According to an exclusive report by TheCable on January 8, 2026, WAEC issued an official Attestation of Results confirming that Tunji-Ojo sat for the exam in June 1999 at Staff Secondary School, Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The document, provided by the minister's media office, includes his full details, embossed photograph, and security features. It lists grades in nine subjects: A1 in Agricultural Science and Yoruba Language; B3 in Economics, Mathematics, Biology, and Physics; and C6 in Chemistry, English Language, and Further Mathematics.
The certificate bears the number NGWASSCS 707650 and official WAEC signatures. The verification comes after the Centre for Leadership Legacy International, a civil society group, petitioned President Bola Tinubu in December 2025 to investigate allegations regarding the minister's WAEC certificate.
Similar doubts had previously been raised about his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate following his 2023 appointment.
Associates of Tunji-Ojo have described the recurring allegations as politically motivated smear campaigns. WAEC attestations are standard replacements or verifications for original certificates and are fully recognized.
The minister, appointed in 2023 to oversee internal security, migration, and border management, had his academic records scrutinized during Senate confirmation. Past NYSC issues were clarified by the corps, which confirmed the certificate's genuineness despite delays in issuance.
