The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigerian security agencies in support of ongoing security operations in the country.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the
delivery in a post on X on Tuesday.
The deployment follows a Christmas Day air strike by the US
against ISWAP in Sokoto, with US President Donald Trump warning of further
action against extremist groups accused of targeting Christians.
In October 2025, Trump declared Nigeria a “Country of
Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian genocide.
Trump described Nigeria as a “disgraceful” country and
threatened to take military action should the government continue to “allow
killing of Christians”.
AFRICOM said the delivery is intended to bolster Nigerian
forces in counter-terrorism and security operations and forms part of a broader
US strategy to strengthen operational cooperation with regional partners in
West Africa.
Nigeria has faced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent
years.
The federal government has yet to issue a formal statement
on the latest US support.
