Donald Trump, the United States president, has formally declined to grant clemency to Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs, the music mogul currently serving a four-year sentence for crimes related to prostitution.
Combs, 56, was arrested in September 2024 after more than
120 accusers, including a minor, came forward with allegations of kidnapping,
blackmail, abuse, and prostitution-related crimes.
In October, Diddy was sentenced to more than four years in
prison by Judge Arun Subramanian at the New York courthouse after being
convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
The disgraced music mogul was initially in custody at the
Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He is, however, now serving his
sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a federal low-security prison in New Jersey. He was
transferred there in late October 2025 after being convicted.
The rapper’s defense team had reached out to Trump seeking a
pardon. The US president had initially weighed the possibility of granting a
full presidential pardon to Diddy before dampening the prospect.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump confirmed he
received a personal appeal from Combs but is not considering the request.
The refusal extends to other notable individuals. Trump
ruled out pardons for Nicolas Maduro, the embattled Venezuelan leader, stating
he sees no rationale for such an action.
He also confirmed there are no plans to grant clemency to
cryptocurrency executive Sam Bankman-Fried, who is serving a 25-year sentence
for fraud.
Diddy is scheduled to serve approximately three years in
jail, after receiving credit for time served. His release date is in May 2028,
according to Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate records.
