Troops Rescue Five Kidnap Victims in Kogi Forest, Recover Two Decomposing Bodies

Nigerian Army troops have successfully rescued five abducted victims, three women and two children during a clearance operation in a forest in Kogi State.

The rescue took place in the Ankomi village area of Adankolo, Lokoja Local Government Area, following reliable intelligence about bandit activity.

Acting on the information, troops from the Obajana and Kabba patrol bases raided the village, which had been previously occupied by bandits but was found destroyed and abandoned.

The soldiers extended their search to the nearby river line, where they intercepted the five victims.

Preliminary debriefing confirmed they were among those kidnapped in the recent Ayetoro Kiri incident.During the operation, troops also discovered two decomposing bodies suspected to belong to other abducted persons.

One female corpse was evacuated and deposited at St. Joseph Mortuary in Kabba, while efforts continue to recover the remaining body.

The rescued victims are currently receiving medical treatment at Fisayo Hospital in Obajana.

A credible military source disclosed that questioning of the freed victims is ongoing to gather intelligence that will aid in locating and rescuing others still held captive by the kidnappers.

The source stated: “Troops extended the operation to the river line where three women and two children were intercepted. Preliminary debriefing confirmed they were victims of the Ayetoro Kiri kidnap incident.”

“Troops further exploited the area and discovered two decomposing bodies suspected to be those of abducted persons. One corpse was evacuated, while efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining remains.”

Military operations in the area are continuing, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols to clear forest hideouts and disrupt criminal activities.

The security situation in the region remains calm but unpredictable, though the morale and fighting efficiency of the troops are reported to be high.
