Troops K!ll 22 ISWAP Fighters, Including Senior Commander in Borno

Nigerian Army Special Forces have killed at least 22 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including a senior commander (Qaid) and two unit leaders (Munzirs), during intense operations in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State, security sources have confirmed.

The heavy losses were inflicted on ISWAP in sustained ground engagements carried out by troops in the notorious insurgent stronghold.

“Troops neutralized 22 ISWAP fighters in the clashes, among them a Qaid and two Munzirs. Several other terrorists were wounded and fled the scene,” the sources told Zagazola Makama. Efforts are ongoing to positively identify the senior commanders eliminated in the operation.

Surviving ISWAP elements are believed to have scattered and are attempting to regroup in forested areas near Bulabulin (approximately 18–20 km west of Damboa) and around Korengelen, southeast of Azir.

Military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations have been significantly intensified across these locations and surrounding forests to locate and engage the fleeing fighters.

“The Nigerian military continues to apply relentless pressure through aggressive clearance patrols and persistent aerial surveillance to degrade ISWAP’s remaining capabilities,” the sources stated.

Security officials reiterated the troops’ unwavering commitment to eliminating ISWAP’s operational presence in Nigeria’s North-East and ensuring the restoration of lasting peace and security for affected communities.
