Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), says President Bola Tinubu will be defeated in 2027 if the election is free and fair.
Speaking during his appearance on Daily Politics, a
programme on Trust TV, Galadima said the opposition will defeat the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 if the electoral process reflects the will
of voters.
“The truth must be told. There is no APC presidential
candidate in 2027 that can get the mandate of the people if there is a free and
fair election,” he said.
Galadima brushed aside questions about whether recent
defections to the APC would secure Tinubu’s victory.
“He will not win. If there is a free and fair election, let
him try it. I challenge him,” Galadima said.
The NNPP chieftain anchored his position on what he
described as widespread public dissatisfaction, particularly among rural
dwellers and farmers, who, according to him, constitute the majority of
Nigeria’s population.
He accused the federal government of deliberately
undermining agriculture through high input costs and import policies, saying
prices of essentials such as fertiliser have surged.
“Farmers constitute the majority of the Nigerian population.
And none of them, no farmer, will vote for an APC government,” he said.
“Buyers are not happy with the development, which means next
year there will be no incentive for anybody to go to the farm.
“And if they don’t go to the farm, there will be a problem.
This government has decided to import things that Nigerians can produce to
crash prices.”
Galadima warned that reduced farming activities could worsen
insecurity, arguing that hunger and joblessness often fuel crime.
“People must eat. Because if they don’t go to the farm, they
can’t eat. That makes it easy for me to say that the APC will lose the election
flat,” he said.
Galadima also reiterated his long-held claim that Atiku
Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the 2019
presidential election.
“And I can swear by the Quran that Abubakar won that
election on adult suffrage. Yes, I have said this time without number. Even
when Muhammadu Buhari was in power, I said it over one million times in the
press that Buhari lost the 2019 election to Atiku,” he said.
Galadima argued that the declaration of Buhari as the winner
of the election and the subsequent judicial validation of the outcome did not
negate his position.
He clarified that his position does not imply that he is
backing Abubakar for the 2027 elections.
