Tinubu Has Right to Remove Me If He Wants - Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted defiantly to growing demands from some All Progressives Congress (APC) groups and other critics calling for his removal from office.

The calls intensified earlier this week following allegations of insubordination, anti-party activities, and interference in Rivers State politics.

Groups such as the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM) staged protests at the APC national secretariat and sent an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, accusing Wike who is not a formal APC member of attacking party leadership, issuing threats, and undermining national unity amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a viral video circulating on social media today, Wike addressed the controversy head-on during what appeared to be a public engagement.

He emphasized that only President Tinubu, who appointed him, has the authority to decide his fate.Key excerpts from Wike's reaction include:"It is not for them to call for my sack."

"If my appointor [President Tinubu] believes I can not offer anything again, he has the right to sack me."

Wike also highlighted his performance in the FCT, stating that he and the people of Rivers (particularly Obio/Akpor) are proud of the developments achieved so far, adding that "If you are not doing well, nobody will talk about you."

The minister's comments come against the backdrop of heightened tensions in Rivers State, where Wike has been accused of fueling instability through his influence over lawmakers and political structures, despite serving in an APC-led federal government as a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While some APC factions and critics, including voices from the Ijaw Youth Council, continue to press for his removal or redeployment, supporters in the FCT have praised his infrastructure achievements and dismissed the calls as baseless.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Presidency or President Tinubu regarding the demands.
