Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles head coach, has replaced the suspended Wilfred Ndidi with Raphael Onyedika in the team’s starting line-up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against Morocco.
Ndidi picked up a second consecutive yellow card in the
quarter-final match against Algeria, which ruled him out of the semis. Onyedika
returns to the Eagles line-up at the expense of the team captain.
It will be Onyedika’s second start in the competition. He
played 90 minutes in the Super Eagles’ 3-1 win over Uganda in their final group
game and scored a brace. The 24-year-old was also named the man of the match
for his performance.
He is the only change to the now-familiar list and will play
at the base of a midfield that includes Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi.
The lethal attacking trio of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman
and Akor Adams continue their productive partnership upfront.
Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Bruno
Onyemaechi retain their positions in defence while Stanley Nwabali remain in
goal.
Nigeria will face Morocco for a place in the 2025 AFCON
final on Wednesday at 9 pm Nigerian time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium
in Rabat, the country’s capital.
Super Eagles Starting XI: Stanley Nwabali, Bright
Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyeamaechi; Raphael Onyedika,
Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi; Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Victor Osimhen.
