TEAM LIST: Onyedika, Chuwkwueze benched as Chelle names familiar starting XI against Mozambique

Eric Chelle, Super Eagles head coach, has reverted to a familiar starting line-up for the team’s second round game against Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Franco-Malian coach makes eight changes to the rotated team that defeated Uganda 3-1 in the final Group C match.

The line-up for the Mozambique tie is similar to the team’s list for the second game against Tunisia, which was won 3-2.

Raphael Onyedika, who scored two goals and was named the man-of-the-match against Uganda, returns to the bench alongside Samuel Chukwueze, who also provided two assists.

They are replaced by Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, with Alex Iwobi coming in for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to complete the midfield trio for the Eagles.

Stanley Nwabali steps in for Francis Uzoho, Bright Osayi-Samuel replaces injured Ryan Alebiosu and Igoh Ogbu makes way for Semi Ajayi at the heart of the defence.

Lookman was the only Nigerian player named in the competition’s best XI for the group stage with two goals and an equal number of assists.

He can continue his impressive performance as he joins Akor Adam and Victor Osimhen to lead the team’s attack.

Nigeria will face Mozambique at 8 pm Nigerian time on Monday.

The winners of the match will go on to face either DR Congo or Algeria in the quarter-final of the competition.

Super Eagles Starting XI: Stanley Nwabali, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyeamaechi; Wilfred Ndidi (C), Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi; Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Victor Osimhen.
