The Sokoto State Government has dismissed as misleading a viral social media video suggesting that residents of Tidibale village in Isa Local Government Area were chased out of their community by bandits.
In an official statement issued today, Abubakar Bawa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, clarified that the individuals seen in the footage are indeed residents of Tidibale village, but they were not displaced by any bandit attack.
According to the statement, the temporary relocation was a proactive security measure taken by local authorities following credible intelligence of a possible bandit plan to attack the community.
“Upon receiving the rumour which understandably caused tension and anxiety among residents, the councillor representing the ward, Dayyabu Sani, promptly reported the matter to the Chairman of Isa Local Government Area, Alhaji Sherifu Kamarawa,” Bawa explained.
The Chairman, in response, directed that the villagers be temporarily conveyed to the local government headquarters as a precautionary step to ensure their safety.
The government confirmed that all the affected residents have since returned safely to their homes in Tidibale village.
Meanwhile, security agencies have significantly increased patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent any potential breach of peace by criminal elements.
In a further move to strengthen security in the region, the Sokoto State Government has approved the establishment of a Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Tidibale village.
The new base will complement existing security formations in Isa Local Government Area and help provide sustained protection for the community and surrounding villages.
The statement reiterated the administration’s firm commitment to the safety of all residents, especially those in vulnerable rural and border areas.
“The Government will continue to work closely with conventional security agencies, the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, and vigilante groups to safeguard rural communities across the state,” Bawa said.
The government also issued a strong warning against the politicisation of security matters and urged citizens to support the fight against banditry by providing credible information, including exposing any informants operating within their communities.
“Furthermore, members of the public are strongly advised to desist from spreading rumours, particularly on security-related matters, due to their sensitive nature and the panic they often generate,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid ongoing efforts by the Sokoto State Government and federal security forces to contain banditry and restore normalcy in affected parts of the state.
