Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerians in the United States who are hiding over fears of deportation to return home and avoid possible arrest.
In a post on X on Saturday, Sani said reports of thousands
of Nigerians going into hiding due to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE,
activities were concerning, stressing that hiding was not a solution.
He urged affected individuals to respect themselves and
consider returning to Nigeria voluntarily, noting that even some US citizens
are sometimes affected during enforcement operations.
According to him, those who are opting for self-deportation
have come to terms with the situation, adding that US President Donald Trump
still has three years left in his tenure.
Sani’s remarks come amid growing concerns over immigration
enforcement and deportation in the United States.
He wrote: “The thousands of Nigerians reportedly going into
hiding in the US out of fear of deportation by ICE should respect themselves
and return home to avoid arrest.
“A situation where sometimes even the US citizens are not
spared, hiding is not an option. Those who are self-deporting have read and
understood the reality. Trump has 3 more years for everyone.”
