Seriake Dickson Dismisses Defection Rumours, Affirms Loyalty to PDP

Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West, has firmly denied reports that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speculation about a possible switch to the ADC  which has been positioned as a potential opposition coalition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections surfaced earlier this week in several media reports.

However, in a statement released on Friday, January 9, 2026, Ajiri Daniels, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the senator, described the reports as “completely false and misleading.”

The statement emphasised that Senator Dickson remains a “committed and active member” of the PDP and continues to play a leadership role within the party both in Bayelsa State and at the national level.“

Senator Dickson has not left the PDP. He is still very much in the party and will continue to provide leadership as he has always done,” the statement read in part.

The former Bayelsa State governor also indicated that he would engage in wide consultations with stakeholders before taking any major political decision in the future.

The clarification comes amid ongoing political realignments and coalition-building efforts across the country as various political actors begin early positioning for the 2027 elections.

Senator Dickson, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Bayelsa politics, served as governor of the state from 2012 to 2020 before winning election to the Senate in 2019.
