Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has announced the rollout of an Electric Motor Vehicle (EMV) training programme for her constituents under the innovative operate-and-own model.
The initiative, part of the broader Kogi Central Constituency Development Programme, aims to train at least 100 eligible indigenes and residents in the operation, maintenance, and commercial use of electric and solar-powered tricycles.
Successful participants will gain hands-on skills and the opportunity to own and operate the eco-friendly vehicles for sustainable income generation.
Announcing the development on Friday, the senator explained that the programme's rollout had been deliberately paused earlier to ensure full regulatory compliance, including Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration and vehicle documentation, while also training technicians for long-term maintenance.
“This programme is not just about distributing vehicles; it is about building capacity and systems that will last,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.
She emphasized its focus on empowerment, job creation, innovation, reduced transportation costs, and environmental sustainability through clean energy solutions.
The senator described the EMV project as a flagship effort combining economic empowerment with green initiatives, particularly targeting women and youths.
A Trust Fund has been established to oversee the programme and ensure transparency and accountability.Applications for the Electric Motor Vehicle Technical Training Programme under the Operate and Own Model (OOM) are now open through the senator's constituency office.
This move builds on earlier announcements from late 2025, positioning Kogi Central as a pioneer in Nigeria's clean mobility and grassroots empowerment efforts.
