More commissioners and top officials have resigned from the Kano state government following Abba Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier, on Monday, Yusuf, governor of Kano, officially
defected to the APC, noting that the decision was taken “in the best interest
of the people of Kano state”.
The governor resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party
(NNPP) on Friday, citing “deepening internal crises” and “prolonged leadership
disputes” as reasons for his exit.
The move came hours after 21 members of the Kano state house
of assembly defected from the NNPP to the APC. Since then, several members of
the state executive cabinet have resigned their appointment.
Ibrahim Umaru, the state’s commissioner for internal
security and special services, announced his resignation on Monday in a letter
addressed to the governor.
Nasiru Garo, commissioner for special duties, also resigned
his appointment.
“This decision has been made after careful thought and
consideration. I am deeply grateful for the trust and support extended to me
during my tenure,” Garo wrote in his resignation letter seen by TheCable.
Others who quit the cabinet include Laminu Rabiu,
director-general of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, and Hassan Danbappa,
managing director of the Kano State Roads Maintenance Agency (KARMA).
In a letter to the governor, Rabiu said his decision
followed an evaluation of his position in the current political movement.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to Rabiu Kwankwaso, national
leader of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement, adding that his resignation
shows his commitment to realign with the party.
Also, Shafa’atu Ahmed has resigned as chief governor’s
report at the ministry of rural and urban development, thanking Yusuf for the
opportunity to serve in his cabinet.
