More than 705 Nigerian refugees have voluntarily returned to Borno State from Cameroon, arriving as the second batch in the ongoing repatriation program.
The 85-household group crossed into the Banki border community in Bama Local Government Area on Friday.
They were welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Michael Ndubusi of the 152 Task Force Battalion and District Head Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Umar, then moved to a reception center for processing.
The refugees were formally seen off in Maroua on Thursday by Midjiyawa Bakari, Governor of Cameroon’s Far North Region.
This follows the first batch of 300 refugees who arrived earlier this week in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, launching the fourth phase of efforts to repatriate around 3,000 Nigerians displaced by the 16-year Boko Haram insurgency.
Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum's administration, with UNHCR support, is providing newly built housing and essential aid.
Each household head receives ₦100,000, wives get ₦20,000 each, plus mattresses, wrappers, food items, and building materials for shelter rehabilitation.
Repatriation Committee Chairman Lawan Abba Wakilbe thanked the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), led by Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahamed, for their partnership. NCFRMI Director Murdakai Titus oversaw the handover of support packages.
Three more convoys are expected in Bama this February, reflecting improved security and ongoing reconstruction to enable sustainable returns and livelihoods for displaced communities.
