Police Sergeant Arrested for Supplying Arms Used in Nasarawa Robbery

A serving police sergeant attached to Daudu Division in neighbouring Benue State has been arrested for allegedly supplying the AK-47 rifle used in a daring armed robbery in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The arrest followed the apprehension of a prime suspect, 30-year-old Justine Gbata of Doka Village, during a swift follow-up operation by a combined team of police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters.

According to security sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the robbery took place around 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2026, when gunmen ambushed one Muhammad Danka of Ankoma Village.

The attackers, armed with an AK-47 rifle, fired several shots to subdue their victim before dispossessing him of his red Bajaj motorcycle and escaping into a nearby forest.Following a prompt report, security forces launched a hot pursuit into the forest, where they successfully arrested Gbata.

Seven spent AK-47 cartridge shells were recovered from the scene of the attack. The suspect, who sustained injuries during the chase, was immediately taken to General Hospital in Doma for medical treatment under police guard.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the rifle used for the robbery was supplied by a serving police sergeant attached to Daudu Division in Benue State,” the sources disclosed.

The implicated sergeant has since been identified, arrested, and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benue State, where he is currently detained pending further investigation.

Police authorities confirmed that efforts are intensifying to apprehend the remaining members of the robbery gang, recover the stolen motorcycle, and trace any additional weapons or accomplices linked to the crime.

The case has raised fresh concerns about internal security breaches and the potential involvement of serving officers in criminal activities, prompting calls for thorough probes and stricter oversight within the force.

Investigations remain ongoing, with no further arrests reported at the time of this publication.
