Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have successfully rescued two individuals abducted during a midnight raid by suspected bandits in the Igala Quarters, Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area.
The attack occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, when armed men stormed the residence of Nasiru Kurya, firing sporadically before abducting his wife, Surayya Nasiru (30), and two other persons.
Upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly mobilized a team to the scene to confirm the incident and launch an immediate search and rescue operation across the vicinity and adjoining routes.
During the intensive combing exercise, security forces located and freed two of the victims, Nura Sani (23) and Abdulgafar Hassan Buba (23) unharmed.
The rescued individuals were immediately taken to Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau for medical evaluation and care.
Efforts remain underway to locate and rescue the remaining victim, Surayya Nasiru, from the kidnappers' custody, while police intensify operations to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The police have urged residents to stay calm and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts in combating banditry and kidnappings in the region.
This latest incident shows the persistent security challenges in Zamfara State, where bandit groups frequently target communities in nighttime raids for abductions, often demanding ransoms.
