A 19-year-old driver, Nsikak Okon, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Edo State following a dangerous high-speed incident in which he knocked down three police officers.
The dramatic arrest, captured in a now-viral video, was confirmed on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who provided details of the reckless driving and deliberate actions that led to the officers’ injuries.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect was operating a heavily tinted vehicle with no number plates when he first encountered police officers on patrol.
“You were driving a fully and heavily tinted vehicle without number plates. You met police officers on the road and sped past in a very reckless manner,” Hundeyin stated in his official post on X.
He continued: “On your way back, you sped past again, nearly knocking down an officer. And in what appears to be very deliberate, you came back again with the same reckless speed, this time successfully knocking down three officers.”
The officers sustained injuries during the incident, and the suspect was eventually apprehended after a chase.
The police have recovered illicit drugs from the vehicle, adding to the charges the teenager is expected to face.
The viral video of the arrest has sparked widespread reactions online, with many condemning the suspect’s dangerous behaviour and calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and vehicle registration regulations.
Investigations are ongoing.
