The Kano state police command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a housewife and her six children at Dorayi Chiranchi quarters in Kano municipal LGA.
The arrests followed a directive from Kayode Egbetokun, the
inspector-general of police, and were carried out in an intelligence-led
operation overseen by Ibrahim Bakori, Kano commissioner of police.
In a statement on Sunday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, police
spokesperson, identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu (also
known as Chebe), 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz (also known as Wawo), 21.
The trio was nabbed during a sting operation that ran from
10 pm on Saturday to 4 am on Sunday.
Kiyawa said investigations unravelled that Auwalu, a nephew
of the deceased woman, was the ringleader and confessed to the crime.
The spokesperson said Auwalu admitted that the group had
carried out previous killings, including the murder and burning of two
housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters in Kano.
Kiyawa said recovered items include four blood-stained
clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club (known
locally as gora), some cash, and other dangerous weapons.
The police command commended its operatives for the swift
response and thanked the public for their cooperation and support, assuring
residents of continued efforts to deliver justice and sustain peace in the
state, as investigations continue.
