PHOTO: Nigerian Man Compares 2020, 2026 Grocery Bills, Records 582% Price Increase

A Nigerian man, Olabode Ifeanyi, has shared a documented comparison of grocery prices between 2020 and 2026 after purchasing the same items listed on an old supermarket receipt.

In a post on X, Ifeanyi said he decided to buy every item on a receipt issued in 2020 to measure how prices have changed over time.

According to the receipts he uploaded, the total cost of the items in 2020 was ₦25,225. However, when he bought the same products in January 2026, the total bill rose to ₦147,050.

Based on the figures, the increase represents about 582 per cent over six years.

“If your salary in 2020 has not increased by six times, then you are poorer,” he wrote.

The receipts show identical products purchased in both years, including food items, beverages, toiletries, and household products.

Ifeanyi attributed the price increase to economic conditions under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“APC destroyed the economy, and Tinubu is about to finish the job,” he stated.
