Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, yesterday presented himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, for questioning after initially defying a police invitation.
Sources revealed that the cleric reported to the SCID following warnings from influential figures about the consequences of disregarding a lawful summons.
He had failed to honour the invitation scheduled for Monday, January 6.The initial refusal was reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation at the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 2 Command in Onikan, involving a dispute with his estranged lover, actress Doris Ogala, who had earlier been detained in connection with the case.
Okafor faces multiple allegations from women, including sexual impropriety, abuse of authority, and more serious claims of murder.
A senior police officer, speaking anonymously, said: “His statement was taken, but he was not detained since there is no complainant yet. We have made attempts to reach out to the victims, even offered them protection and transportation, but no one showed up.”
The officer added that the Lagos State Command would “stand down” to allow Zone 2 to conclude its investigation, where Okafor is the complainant and Ogala the suspect.
However, the command’s offer for potential victims to come forward remains open.Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed Okafor’s appearance at the SCID yesterday afternoon but declined further comment.
The invitation stemmed from a January 3 letter directing the pastor to report by 10 a.m. on Monday.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered the probe amid escalating online allegations from Okafor’s daughter, former lovers, and church members.
The controversy erupted weeks ago when Doris Ogala publicly accused Okafor of breaching a marriage promise, releasing audio-visual evidence that sparked widespread outrage and calls for investigation.
Okafor, who married his new wife Pearl on December 16, initially dismissed the claims as attacks from enemies but later admitted to some wrongdoing, publicly apologised to his congregation, and announced a one-month break from pastoral duties for prayer and rest.
