Abia State Governor Alex Otti has called on the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) to "repent," respect recent court rulings, and embrace reconciliation, offering forgiveness and reintegration for those who comply.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on January 23, 2026, Governor Otti reacted to the Federal High Court's judgement recognizing the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee as the authentic leadership of the Labour Party.
Otti described the ruling as "sound" and consistent with an earlier Supreme Court decision.
He urged the Abure faction to "turn a new leaf, sheathe their sword, and respect the judgement of the Federal High Court."
The governor promised that compliant members would be forgiven and reintegrated, stating they should "become law-abiding" to facilitate unity.
He thanked "lovers of democracy" for supporting the party during its "troubling times" and called on those behind "frivolous litigations" against the LP to cease and honor the court decisions.
Otti further charged the national leadership under the recognized Nenadi Usman faction to use the victory as an opportunity to "rejig the party" by promoting peace, unity, and justice in line with the party's constitution and ideals.
The Federal High Court ruling, delivered recently, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Nenadi Usman-led National Working Committee, effectively sacking Julius Abure as national chairman after determining his tenure had expired.
This followed prolonged leadership disputes within the LP, including multiple court battles over legitimacy since the post-2023 election period.Abure has rejected the judgement and vowed to appeal, maintaining his claim to the chairmanship.
