Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that divine support and the backing of the people will secure his re-election later this year.
The governor spoke on Monday at a New Year interfaith prayer
session held at the State Secretariat, attended by labour leaders, religious
figures and public servants.
He said his administration had surmounted numerous
challenges over the past three years and would similarly overcome the hurdles
ahead of the forthcoming election.
According to Adeleke, his government’s journey since
assuming office has been sustained by faith and resilience.
“Our God has remained our sustainer, defender and protector.
From the very beginning, He has fought our battles for us. Those who rise
against us are confronted by a higher power,” he said.
He described his administration as a testament to what he
called ‘divine grace,’ noting that his government had prevailed over obstacles
that once appeared insurmountable.
“We are living proof that God rules in the affairs of men.
Time and again, we have overcome challenges and emerged victorious. As God
remains the same yesterday, today and forever, we shall continue to prevail and
remain undefeated,” the governor declared.
Adeleke further highlighted the achievements of his
administration, stating that he had implemented people-centred policies since
taking office and delivered tangible results across key sectors of the state’s
economy.
“From my first day in office, we prioritised programmes that
directly impact the lives of our people. Three years on, we have kept faith
with Osun residents and honoured our promises,” he said.
The governor listed interventions for senior citizens,
support for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation of roads and bridges,
empowerment of artisans, and efforts to address challenges in education and
healthcare among the accomplishments of his administration.
He also noted that his government was gradually resolving
inherited salary and pension arrears, despite skepticism from political
opponents.
“Under very difficult circumstances, we are addressing
half-salary payments and pension backlogs which some claimed were impossible to
resolve. We have ensured that Osun resources work for Osun people and created a
more enabling environment for investors,” Adeleke said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC,
in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed labour’s commitment to
supporting the governor’s re-election, declaring that workers would vote en
masse for Adeleke during the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Religious leaders also offered prayers and goodwill
messages.
The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, and the
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state, Dr John
Adeleke, commended the governor’s consistent public expression of faith and
prayed for divine guidance to help resolve the state’s challenges and ease the
path to his re-election.
