The Ondo State Government has ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of St. Louis Primary School, located in the Ondo West Local Government Area, citing repeated violations of state regulations governing private educational institutions.
The shutdown order was issued by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, who described the school’s actions as showing “persistent non-compliance and flagrant disregard” for established guidelines.
Prof. Ajibefun stated that the decision reflects the state government’s unwavering commitment to enforcing minimum standards and ensuring that all private schools operate strictly within the legal and regulatory framework of Ondo State.
“The closure will remain in force until the proprietors of St. Louis Primary School fully comply with all government requirements and formally acknowledge the supervisory authority of the state,” the Commissioner emphasized.
He further stressed that the Ondo State Government remains resolute in its determination to maintain high educational standards and protect the welfare of pupils across both public and private institutions in the state.
The action comes amid broader efforts by the government to strengthen oversight of private schools and ensure consistent adherence to approved operational, infrastructural, and administrative standards.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the move as a signal of the state’s seriousness about quality control in the sector, though some parents and guardians have expressed concern over the immediate disruption to their children’s schooling.
The government has not indicated a specific timeline for reopening, reiterating that the school must first demonstrate complete compliance before any consideration will be given to lifting the suspension.
