Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has described his selection as the Oloja of Lagos-elect as “a call to service” with exceptional responsibilities. The 72-year-old actor was announced as the Oloja of Lagos-elect on January 24, following his presentation at the palace of the Elereko.
In a telephone chat, Kosoko expressed excitement and felt he merited the selection. It’s unclear if his new role will affect his acting career.
Fellow actor, Bolaji Amusan (Mr Latin) congratulated Kosoko, stating that his selection signifies Nollywood actors are responsible and contribute to society.
“Jide is not the only Prince in Lagos or in the Kosoko family, but because they know his level of intelligence and acceptability, hence his selection as the Oloja of Lagos,” Mr Latin said. Kosoko becomes the second Nollywood actor to ascend a throne, after Okey Bakassi was crowned king of his community in Imo State last year. The position of Oloja of Lagos became vacant after Chief Adebola Ige’s death in 2017. The declaration was made by the Olori Ebi General of the King Kosoko Royal Family, Mrs Mutiat Ali-Balogun. In line with long-established palace customs, Ali-Balogun raised Kosoko’s hand in affirmation before the assembly, accompanied by traditional rites and prayers. She was supported by the Deputy Olori Ebi General, Oyindamola Ayepola, who also heads the Meshimo Ruling House.
