Nuhu Ribadu Debunks Rumors of Mother's Death

Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has firmly dismissed viral online reports claiming that his mother died on Monday, January 19, 2026, describing the publication as "false and misleading."

In a statement posted on his official X account late Monday, Ribadu explained that he received numerous calls and messages from concerned friends and associates offering condolences following the inaccurate claim.

He set the record straight, noting that his biological mother passed away 28 years ago, making it impossible for her to have died on the reported date.

"The publication is false and misleading. My mother of blessed memory passed away 28 years ago and therefore could not have died on Monday," Ribadu wrote.

Ribadu revealed that the person who actually passed away on January 19 was Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, the wife of his late uncle. He offered prayers for the deceased, saying: "May Allah SWT forgive her shortcomings, bless her soul, and grant her Aljannat Firdaus."

He expressed deep appreciation to those who reached out and stood by his family during the period of mourning, adding: "We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood by our family during this loss. May Allah SWT reward you all abundantly."

The clarification comes amid a wave of misinformation that occasionally spreads on social media regarding public figures in Nigeria.

Ribadu, a former pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and current key security official under President Bola Tinubu, used the opportunity to correct the narrative and honor the memory of the departed family member.

No further details on the circumstances of Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu's passing were provided in the statement.
