Nigeria Seeks Stronger Economic Ties with Spain, Positions Itself as Europe-Africa Bridge

Nigeria is ramping up efforts to draw Spanish investments, positioning the country as a vital link foreconomic growth between Europe and Africa.Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar led these initiatives during a key meeting with executives from Spain's top business group, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE).

According to a statement from the minister's media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the engagement was a strategic step to revitalize bilateral economic relations between Nigeria and Spain.Tuggar emphasized Nigeria's ongoing economic reforms, its young and dynamic population, and its access to continental markets, while noting alignments with Spain's interests in economics and migration policies.

He called for a sustained partnership framework focused on productive investments, technology transfer, and integrated value chains.

Moving beyond reliance on oil and gas, Tuggar highlighted Nigeria's diversification into non-oil sectors, including agriculture and agro-processing, infrastructure, manufacturing, business process outsourcing, technology, and creative industries.

As Africa's largest market and a gateway to West and Central Africa, Nigeria offers investors access to over 1.3 billion consumers through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the minister noted.Tuggar reassured potential Spanish investors of continued improvements in the business environment, including greater regulatory transparency and stronger protections.

He urged them to view Nigeria not as a high-risk market, but as a prime opportunity for sustainable growth connecting Europe and Africa.
