Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that Nigeria is shifting its approach to food security, moving beyond traditional agricultural frameworks to treat it as a critical macroeconomic, national security, and governance imperative.
Speaking at a high-level panel titled “When Food Becomes Security” during the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Shettima emphasized that the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu now views food security as a strategic foundation for governance, economic stability, and regional cohesion.
The Vice President highlighted the launch of a comprehensive, multi-dimensional agricultural initiative aimed at shielding Nigeria from external shocks and revitalizing productivity in the country's key food-producing regions.
This strategy is anchored on three core pillars: boosting food production, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering deeper regional integration, particularly within West Africa.
Shettima expressed strong confidence in the ongoing Renewed Hope Agenda reforms, predicting accelerated progress in climate adaptation, from pilot programs to widespread implementation and a significant surge in intra-African trade, exceeding the current level of 10.7%.
