NAF Neutralizes Over 10 ISWAP Terrorists in Precision Strikes in Borno State

The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has delivered a significant blow to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), neutralizing more than 10 terrorists in coordinated precision air strikes across volatile areas in Borno and Yobe states, including the notorious Timbuktu Triangle.

According to reliable intelligence gathered by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operations on January 13 were triggered by real-time surveillance from Army unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

These assets detected a concentration of ISWAP fighters moving along the Ambia Tasha, Ambia Sheruri, Ambia Turo, and Shangamaru axis in Yobe State.

Acting on this actionable intelligence, the NAF authorized and executed targeted air interdictions against the identified terrorist elements and their assets, including motorcycles used for mobility.

Initial battle damage assessments confirmed substantial casualties, with more than 10 terrorists neutralized.

Sources close to the operation described a specific engagement: “We observed about 10 terrorists with motorcycles and bicycles gathered under a large, thick tree, with the likelihood of more concealed within the canopy.

"We were tasked to engage, and the strike was executed precisely. Post-strike observation indicated overwhelming neutralisation, with only one individual seen fleeing the impact area.”

The strikes underscore the Air Component's ongoing strategy of relentless pressure on terrorist networks through persistent aerial surveillance and intelligence-driven precision engagements.

“We reaffirm our commitment to denying terrorists freedom of movement, degrading their logistics, and safeguarding vulnerable communities,” the sources stated.

“Air surveillance and coordinated precision operations will continue in close collaboration with ground forces until the remaining threats are fully neutralized.”

The Timbuktu Triangle, a remote and rugged border region spanning parts of Borno and Yobe, remains a key operational hub for ISWAP fighters, who frequently use it for regrouping, logistics, and planning attacks.

Recent NAF operations in the area, including earlier strikes in January 2026 at locations like Abbaga Jiri, Abirma, and Chiralia, have consistently targeted hideouts, IED production facilities, and escape routes to disrupt insurgent activities.

These latest actions highlight the integrated air-ground approach of Operation Hadin Kai in sustaining momentum against insurgency in Nigeria's North-East, amid efforts to restore peace and security to affected populations.

No civilian casualties were reported in the strikes, according to available assessments.
